Nearly every single Time Spiral card was an homage to at least one previously printed card.

This card is part of a five-card cycle referencing the various kinds of "storage lands;" the first were in Fallen Empires (Icatian Store, et al) then tried again in Mercadian Masques (Subterranean Hangar, et al). This cycle became easily the most successful, finding a way to make the 'storage' part of the land less-clunky, promoting some entrants in this cycle to appear in tournament-caliber constructed decks.

I really liked this cycle of lands. Sure, they were slow, but the ability to store up goodies and crack them open at will? I'm all for that.

I once used this in an Esper deck when I was swampscrewed. It served ad the most inefficient land ever (3 mana = 1 black). All of my spells have at least one B in their cost.

I won that game.

Between all storage lands, this cycle is the most powerful, I think. It comes into field untapped, and can tap for {1}. Yes, it requires actually 2 mana to put a counter on it, but I think that it's a little price to pay, in order to be able to put counters since the beginning, instead of wait for a whole turn like the old lands... Moreover, you can pay {1} from any land to get mana from this, and still be able to tap to add a counter afterward...

My Izzet Commander deck need the enemy-color version of this land!

4/5

Obvious synergy with Fireball and Exsanguinate is obvious.
