A versatile card, but one that doesn't perform any single function particularly well. You can use it to prevent damage to a player, but that means you have to leave mana untapped and cast it on your opponent's terms, as opposed to say Stream of Life which gains you life immediately when you have the available mana. The other function is to prevent damage to a creature. Again, this function of the card was made obsolete early in Magic's history with the printing of Indestructible Aura, as Mr. Redhatter pointed out.

I remember trying kill a Force of Nature with this. (If I prevent all 8 damage, it dies, right?) It was one of my first games of magic.

Shame, this card name could've made for a classic creature...oh well. Decent card I guess but there are better ones out there such as Apostle's Blessing. Although I guess this can prevent further burn spells provided you have the mana..
