Spitemare + Spitemare + Rite of Passage + 1 damage to one of them. Bounce the damge to get a fatty as big as you like. Not as good as the Stuffy Doll with a Guilty Conscience as far as emo cards go, but still nifty.

Huge fun without being too powerful.
Unlike many hybrid cards I think his ability justifiably fits in both mono white and mono red, as well as feeling W/R. See mirror strike as example of white doing this kind of thing.

I accidentally ended up with infinite life.
I had played this guy, and equipped him with the Scourge of the Nobilis. Then, I summoned Deathless Angel. It looks rather obvious now, but the Deathless was a new addition to my deck, and I hadn't seen these two cards together since I only run one copy of each.
In any case, I had the two of them out for two turns before I realized I could make the spitemare indestructible, cast lightning helix on him, and then have him deal 3 damage to himself over and over again (while gaining 3 life each time because of the scourge), until I had a million+ life and I sent 3 damage into my opponent.
I like cards that can do a lot of different things, and this card is just excellent in that regard. While there's "better" 4 CMC R/W cards, I keep playing spitemare because I enjoy being surprised by what he can do.

Why is Nightmare a Nightmare Horse, Thundermare and Timbermare Elemental Horse, and this... only Elemental? Why not make it a Horse like its relatives?

Definitely in my top 5 favorite creatures in the game. In addition to Shivan Meteor, it also combos nicely with Pestilence/Pyrohemia and any of the Rath Cycle Kor. Elemental horses are so cool!
