I took this card over Behemoth Sledge in draft at pre-release, and won the draft with it over the guy who was on my left, who took the new Warhammer with many comments to me about why I had made the wrong pick. This card is awesome. So are all (or most) of the new equipments in Alara Reborn.

Awesome piece of equipment. All you have to do is turn something sideways and you're dealing damage to the opponent's face. I love this card!

Edit: Deus of Calamity. I mean, DAMN!

Puting this on a Meglonoth is also a good combo, as it allows you to attack your opponent for 6 unblockable damage, then also hit them with the decision to take another 6 or throw a few creatures in front of the trampleing monstrocity. While also keeping the creature to block with, giving you the ability to deal another six damage if your opponent is foolish. If you could give the Meglonoth double strike or unblockability, or both I guess, then ouch.

This plus Apocalypse Hydra wins games, and is my favorite combo at the moment.

Sledge v Mage Slayer... Man, I HOPE I have to make that choice in the near future. I'd be happy to have either. This card is going straight into my Exalted/Reckless Ogre deck.

I played in the Launch Sealed with this guy, and he was positively deadly. Lost to the guy with the Behemoth Sledge, but man, it was a close game.

I am actually thinking about making this and Kresh the Bloodbraided as part of my strategy in a spectrum deck I'm trying to work on. I'm going to maybe work 3 of each and 3 Malfegor and 2 Thraximundar. I'm thinking if you can use Malfegor to boost either Kresh or Thraximundar and give them a Mage Slayer, then you don't have to worry at all about them being chump blocked to deal their dmg.

Kresh can get potentially alot bigger than Thraximundar after using Malfegor, though Kresh doesn't have haste and could get killed by the time summoning sickness wears off, where the other can swing immediately after, so either one could be a great threat. I'll try to run multiple copies of each so that it'd take multiple players or alot of removal from one opponent just to stop the combo from working out. Even if they did stop it, Malfegor had already wiped out most or all of their creatures anyway, clearing the way for other attacks.

The best part about this card is that it lets you deal damage to a player with a fat creature that doesn't have the evasions to land the hit on its own. Awesome creatures like Plated Slagwurm and Gloryscale Viashino just made a new best friend.

It might actually work well with Heartlash Cinder, too. I always thought he was cool, but he isn't big enough early-game when he can actually hit. The Mage Slayer just might make him effective late game, too. Oh, and if someone wants to try out Heartlash Cinder with Impelled Giant, let me know how that turns out.

Perfect way to deal instant damage, and perfect with fatties like Kresh (give the sword back to the guy whose quote is on Mage Slayer!)
