This is the same as elvish branchwhatever, but minus one power and toughness. its uncommon cause its an ally, so you get the crapload of ally benefites from other allies when you summon it. So it is essentially better than branchwhatever.

@PEVE_O: Animist is an Ally, Branchbender is an Elf. Branchbender can only target forests, Animist can target any land. Animist makes an Elemental, Branchbender makes a Treefolk.

Their only REAL difference is that Animist can target other lands and is an Uncommon. I fail to see how this is "weaker" in the slightest. They're just different tribes. Branchbender would be crap in an Ally deck, this would be crap in an Elf deck. They're just different.

Usable because it's an ally. Also, the land stays colorless.

My opponent had two of these guys in a limited draft, and it was very effective. He can make defenders as an instant, or create man-lands that effectively have haste.

Much tougher to deal with than I would have thought. Maybe not outstanding in constructed formats, but I'd definitely take one drafting, especially if you have a good ally mix going already.

3.5/5

compare to Elvish Branchbender
what the heck? branchbender is a common 2/2 with "same ability" for same converted mana cost.
Why make him weaker and uncommon?

Green is the color of mana-ramp. You'll have plenty of disposable lands as the highest cost ally is 6 w/ most topping out at 5, not to mention harabaz Druid keepingyou from getting mana screwed. Don't use him to launch angry forests at your enemies, use him for tougher than usual chumpers. Plus, other 'big' allies get pumped by allies that come after, this guy works retroactivly in a way. Plus you won't have to worry about losing him to deathtouch. Also, lands are colorless so he's effectivly immune to color protection. Not to mention Terra eternal. Now those unlimited chumpers are just that much tougher. He'll buy you time early and beat down late. Solid 4/5
