correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't this cycle of mana batteries the reason why the most common type of counters for artifacts are charge counters?

Are you guys kidding me? This thing uses CHARGE COUNTERS y'know, the ones were you aren't supposed to use the overpriced ability on the card to get them, but along with proliferate you get plenty of free mana. Throw in a colorless deck with the rest of the batteries

Could very well be. I think a charge counter is appropriate for something that accumulates nd can be removed for some effect.

For anyone with a choice, may I direct your attention to the Rainbow Mana Battery. It may not be strictly better than this venerable cycle, but it comes pretty close.
