This seems to be an improved version of Lim-Dûl's High Guard. It has one more toughness, but the always-relevant zombie creature type is what sets this apart from the earlier guard. That and this has to be my favorite Phyrexian flavor text. I first saw it when Urza Block came out, and it's one of the few flavor texts that really stuck with me. For some reason I always remembered it as "Thy filigree gaze", which would've fit more with the "demonic ***ure" flavor, but oh well.
Anyway, it's still a solid blocker with two highly relevant creature types. You can run him with Haakon, Stromgald Scourge or with Death Baron. I give him 3.5 for that, but the stellar flavor earns him an extra star from me. 4.5/5
