I find it funny that at the first standard tournament since hex parasite was legal, exactly 0 hex parasites showed up. What did show up was 24 Jace the mind sculptors and 6-8 (I forget) jace belerans.

If you want to be all tech and stuff, you can just keep pinging yourself down with the Parasite's ability. If you think that's a terrible idea, Death's Shadow would like to say hello. (It might still be a terrible idea.) If you can add any other cards that would benefit from such abuse of your life total, list them here and let the Parasite go to work. :)

That new Mikaeus, the Unhallowed that's coming out... Hex Parasite can just take care of that pesky +1/+1 counter for endless undying ;)

This will be helpful for the new Undying mechanic. Pump up your attacker and leave your Undying creatures with another chance at glory. Especially good with the new Mikaeus in Dark Ascension

I agree with brunsbr103 about Etched Monstrosity, I intend to combo the two of them that I got in back-to-back boosters! Minimum 5/5 for 5 colorless = joy.

Remember that planeswalkers have LOYALTY counters, not health. So the parasite dropping them to 0 is the equivalent of the 'walker fleeing the battlefield yelling "AHHHH GETITOFF GETITOFF GETITOFF!"

If this doesn't see Standard, at least in sideboard, I will be extremely surprised.
His most relevant use is Planewalker killing, no matter how you slice it.
He's a 1/1 for 1, and an artifact creature, very nice,
Kills planeswalkers, heals infected creatures, takes away charge counters, turns off active quests/ascensions/etc, makes ratchet bomb almost useless...
I'm missing some, I know, but I'm tired of listing.
Oh, did I mention ANY DECK CAN USE THIS?
Like I said, this is standard material, and a beautiful answer.

(P.S. He reminds me of Quillspike, and I liked Quillspike.)

I love this little guy. When I was just getting started with Magic about 2 years ago, I asked a judge if I could target things without counters on them to kill myself. He said "Yes, but I can't imagine why you would want to do that."

Fast forward a month later, I had made a deck completely built around the Fateful Hour mechanic from Innistrad block. It worked like this

Turn 1 -> Any land, Hex Parasite,
Turn 2 -> At least a plains, Ping yourself down to 4 life, Gather the Townsfolk, watch your opponent freak out at the army you just spawned,
Turn 3 -> At least a plains, Thraben Doomsayer, swing for 13,
Turn 4 -> whatever you want, swing for 15, GG

Of course there are other things you can do, like have a Near-death experience

Near-death experience says hi. If you ever have odd health you win.

And even beats Divinity-given Indestructibility!
It beats Planeswalkers (effective gods), Kami (Gods), and so much more that everyone has pointed out (as well as making some cards soo nicely unfair...

after comments about planeswalkers and Dark Depths, we can go a little simpler.
fathom mage for easier evolve if you don't have a zameck guildmage out. also makes cumulative upkeeps easier to pay with the new rules about time counters; also, cards like Descent into Madness. if nothing else, swarmyard with an easy nonrestrictive 1 drop.

Interesting with Glacial Fortress. Add Ivory Tower for perma-stall until you're ready.
