this is a historic card for the fact it was a first pick over pretty much anything in limited at the time since it was oddly mana efficient for the time.

Under original wording, a Little Girl with a +1/+1 counter gets by him, but not on the current Oracle wording.

Yep... the first "almost a Grizzly Bear" red got. The drawback is mostly meaningless since this would only show up in a red deck that attacks all the time. Of course, decks like that will be Goblin-based most of the time, or use other, better, creatures. What's really sad is how many red creatures have been printed over the years that are worse than this already mediocre Orc.

I had forgotten there was a time when playing a 2/2 for 
was sort of viable. One of these years Wizards should get around to supporting the Orc tribe.
