I remember the time when no blue mage was safe from red counterspells. There was three of them so 12 in any antiblue deck.
This, Pyroblast and Burnout.

Pyroblast can target nonblue permanants/spells. So, if you are building storm, you can target your own nonblue permanents/spells (or your opponents). Red Elemental Blast can't.

Oh for the love of God...REPRINT THIS! This was my favourite sideboard against control in decks in '95 (not that anyone USEDthe word control back then;)

Oh so pyroblast could target it but not counter it, whereas Red Elem Blast can't even target it. That makes sense... that is sneeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaky.
