I actually like most of the new art from FTV:L (except Rafiq, bleh) but this is not one I think is superior or comparable to the old. The old art is very dynamic, you can see how thing are moving in it, you can see that Kiki-Jiki is commanding the dragon he summoned. In this one, everything is static: a fiery... something, is in the background behind Kiki-Jiki doing... something. It's really not clear what is going on in this picture.

Kiki's card design is really cool, and I love cards like this (ones with interesting effects and lots of different interactions with other cards), but I feel like something went a little wrong somewhere for him to be so easy to break.

So yeah, I know it's practically irrelevant because Kiki-Jiki goes infinite with about a gazillion different creatures, but I still want to note that his tokens can be made permanent with Sundial of the Infinite by exiling the one-time triggered ability to sacrifice them.

Also, if you use Selesnya's new "Populate" mechanic, you can make permanent duplicates any of Kiki's copies. These duplicate copies will have haste, but they won't have to be sacrificed, since that clause is part of Kiki-Jiki's text and not the token's, so it is not copied. This applies to any Clone effect, but Populate is probably a little easier to spam.

It might be fun to try to abuse these in a casual context where players might fr... (see all)

kiki-jiki, mirror breaker + cloud of faeries/peregrine drake/great whale/palinchron + Minamo, School at Water's Edge + island

1. use kiki-jiki to copy one of the creatures
2. untap him with Minamo in response
3. creature copy resolves
4. untap Minamo, and Island, and whatever other lands
5. repeat

Infinite mana and infinite whales for ya

Confirmed for Modern Masters (as a mythic, unfortunately, so prices probably won't get THAT much more manageable). Posting on this version because they're using this art, rather than the original.

Honestly, I prefer the old art. In that one, you could clearly see that there's a dragon that he's copied, following his orders, attacking. In this one, it's just him in front of a wall of fire, with a bare hint of eyes in the background. Cool, but not as in-line with the flavor as the old art.

I dunno, I like this art. I don't think of goblin poop (...though I can never unsee that now, thank you) but rather the classic "macho man flex" sort of thing. He's standing in front of a raging inferno, and he's proud of it.

I know what you mean, though. I feel that way about the new Elspeth art for the Elspeth vs Tezz deck - it's atrocious and I can't bring myself to put her in the perfectly-suited EDH deck I have because of it.

Oh snap. If you have something awesome (and highly predictable) like Blightsteel Colossus on the field,
then...
well, you know.

You read the card effect, right?

I think this art is leagues beyond the original. He's not just standing in front of a "raging inferno." After all, the "inferno" has eyes. It's as if he's using all of his concentration to conjure this fiery doppleganger that'll vanish as soon as it's done wreaking its havoc. Very cool.

This art, just...this art. It went from "awesome action pose in front of a dragon" to "taking a dump in front of some fire." Blech.

Yes the card is just as good, but any time I felt like making a deck with Kiki-Jiki in it, I would go out of my way to search for the other, non-poopin' version.

The new artwork is lame. It looks as if he's posing for the artist, and in doing so, seems to be breaking the fourth wall. Additionally, the whole picture is boringly symmetrical. It all makes the piece feel really contrived.
