It is here to make sure token decks don't get out of control. All the zombies, spirits and vampires have the same names, respectively. Also, 4 mana no questions asked removal is pretty good considering that usually costs 5.

One of those "safety valve" cards that get printed to make sure certain archetypes don't run rampant in the metagame. Looks like Wizards was a bit afraid of the idea of "Black Weenie" decks overrunning Standard. Modern already had Aether Snap, though this is cheaper.

A black removal where you get to target any creatures you want without any other restrictions sounds good enough for me at 4cc, even for sorcery speed. Exile is definitely a better form of removal than destroy (Unless you have a Cemetery Reaper or whatnot), and it just gets better when you can use it against tokens or clone.

The flashback cost might be a little costly, but compared to Chainer's Edict when flashbacked, its effect is certainly better.

This card is amazing.. hands down 5/5. It exiles and has a good chance of being a 2 for 1 on the first go. Then it chills in your graveyard, scaring your opponent into playing around it.

How this is under a 4 is mind boggling.

Every Black EDH/Commander deck ever will want one of these. Unconditional, repeatable removal is really good.

Don't you people realize that Black has barely any, if any, ability to exile? That makes this card bad ass. Yes sacrifice is kind of like that but exile ability is more powerful.

Shuts down those pesky Chronozoas, Mirror-Sigil Sergeants, and Spawnwrithes. Also deceptively good in EDH, if you ignore the radiance effect. Two removal spells in one, very nice to have. 4.5/5

Exile Removal on a Predator Ooze / Stuffy Doll / Tajic, Blade of the Legion for 4 in Black

Then it kills any copies of it?

Then you can flash it back??!?

4.5/5 very good card.

@notbumblebee: it's still a creature, so the target is still valid. Also, if I'm not mistaken, this checks for creatures with the same name upon resolution, not upon casting, and as such, if you somehow flashed in another reckless waif (which has the waif face up) that one won't be exiled. It will only check for other merciless predators.

More generally, great card overall, really strong removal, and the flashback is amazing for slower formats like EDH.

What happens if they sever the Bloodline my Reckless Waif, and in response I play Moonmist. Will the Merciless Predator be a valid target for the Sever the Bloodline, or did I save my Waifs?

Thanks

Any of you who think this is color pie bleed because of the word exile don't understand the color pie.

This has:
- No additional targeting restrictions.
- Exiles target.
- Sometimes exiles multiple targets in one resolution.
- Reusable.
- Breaks the Color Pie.
Extremely good for Black. 'Sacrifice' -effect would have been good enough.

Only 3/5 for unnecessary Color Pie bleed.

Play against 7 other Relentless Rats decks in free-for-all.

Go last.

Once they all have 30 and a half rats on the field, this.

Laugh.
