The Karoo lands are very good in their own right. Most dual lands either give you one or the other. The Karoo lands give both. Sure, you get to bounce a land, but with the zendikar lands, that can be worked to your advantage.

Plus, if you get untap land effects, these will become overpowered. Just make sure they don't get destroyed, or else you'll lose a bit of tempo.

EDIT: ... I DUN GOOFED. its KAROO, NOT KAZOO.

I'm guessing "kazoo" was a typo as they are named after Karoo but it's just about the best typo ever :P

@ghstrydr: you posed the most bizzarre question of all time, but somehow licit... At least isn't the usual question about "What if I play this and it's the only land that I have in the battlefield?" (If you wonder, you must return it to your hand)

It doesn't say "...return a land you control to your hand." because you can control a land that you stealed from an opponent with Conquer, Shifting Borders, Vedalken Plotter or something else... In a player's graveyards, hands and libraries can go only cards that that player own (those cards that were in its library at the start of the game).

For your second question, in order to use your land, it has to be in the battlefield and you have to tap it. But this land enters the battlefield already tapped, so you wouldn't be able to meet the condition to use the land until you next untap step (unless you use a tool that untap it...).

Those lands may not be the most intuitive cards,... (see all)

I feel like in casual play the karoo lands are pretty nice... even in tricolor decks they aren't too bad. But they can result in massive loss of tempo if they get nuked, and in multiplayer that's pretty likely to happen. As with any card you have to weigh the pros and cons...

Pros:

*color fixing
*combo with untap land effects such as Candelabra of Tawnos
*Landfall trigger

Cons:

*comes into play tapped
*massive loss of speed if it gets removed

For me that already kills the card for me, at least in a competitive 2 color deck. I just don't need the extra color fixing that badly. There's a reason this is a $0.20 common :/

3/5

Question on this card, I have been taking this card to read: "...return a land you control to its owner's hand." meaning: I play Izzet Boilerworks, I control several land cards, say for example 2R and 3U. My opponent controlls 2R and 3G. Since I control a red land, I force my opponent to return one of his red lands into their hand.

The card reads, "return a land you control to its owner's hand," it doesn't say "return a land you control to your hand," it refers to it's owner. I control a red land, therefore I can return a land of that color to an owners hand? I have read on a few places that you should return your land to your hand. Why would the card not say return a land of yours back to your hand, etc....?" confusing, any help is appreciated. I am totally new as you can tell, so any help would be appreciated.

Also, when laying a card that says it enters the battlefield tapped, do you not get to reap the benefits of tapping that card the turn you lay it? Say you lay a ... (see all)
