Talking about watermarks, I've always wonder why in the Advanced search of the Gatherer about watermarks there are only the Phyrexian and the Mirran choices, and the Ravnica watermarks are left outside. Nobody cares about Ravnica anymore? This fact makes me so angry...!
However the signets are some of the most balanced and powerful mana-artifact out there. They encourage an oculate use of your resources, and give you a little acceleration that lacks in certain colours, like blue and black.

Are signets better than dual lands? Maybe. They do match the color fixing abilities of dual lands by offering all ten color combinations. They also ramp your mana up a bit and offer more synergy options such as metalcraft.
Better? Kinda. Yet, unless you're considering budget it's best to use them in addition to dual lands rather than replacing them.

The best Signet. Underground Sea is the best Alpha/Beta Dual. Same reason, but even moreso because this is an artifact.
Black and Blue have a LOT of Artifact support (for starters, two Planeswalkers, a From the Vault: Exiled card, and the most powerful Land in the game: Tolarian Academy.)
