I want to give this a seven out of five.

Platinum Angel meets Pelakka Wurm. Not broken by any means, but it's got excellent design. Plus, I'm always happy to see a Wurm at Mythic.

@ pedrodyl: you're far more likely to get a Duskdale Wurm...
Anyway, I have mixed feelings about this card. First off, it's the Mythic wurm that Green always needed, and that art is gorgeous. On the other hand, I feel like it should have been a Pelakka Wurm on steroids, instead of a Worship on legs (or no legs...). Regardless, it'll probably be a nightmare to play against when you've run out of removal. And I'll pick up a copy because it's a Wurm with gorgeous art.

Until someone uses sign in blood or vapor snag on you. This can't prevent loss of life. Any card which causes you to "lose life" would be an easy way to get past this.

@Antsache: Wrong. "Your life total becomes 7" always implies "You gain the amount of life needed so that your life total becomes 7." It's that way with all cards that state "your life total becomes...", for example, see the rulings on Tree of Redemption.

Therefore, cards like Forsaken Wastes, Havoc Festival and the mentioned Sulfuric Vortex will impede the EtB effect of the wurm.

Lotsofpoopy says "If you give this guy shroud or hexproof than you can't lose!"

1. If you lose life that's not from damage, you can still lose.
2. You can still lose from having no cards in your library or having 10 poison counters.
3. It's "then", not "than".

He did not say he was a pro this time.

This is Pelakka Wurm's broodmate

Basically, what MICKEY said was:

7 instances of the number 7 = 7
CMC=7 = 8
7 lines of text = 9
7 in the collector number = 10
"Trample", "becomes", "reduces", "instead" = 14

I think we can do a little better than that.

Artist's name: "Richard" = 15
"ELDERSCALEWURM" is fourteen letters = 17
Assuming the green things on the Wurm's head are ears, there are seven horns = 18

You wanna get really down and dirty?

Display rulings: four sevens: 22
All five extra rulings were put up in July: 27
The current rating for this card (definitely going to change soon): 3.972 = 28 sevens in all

Look at that. 28. Four more sevens, bringing the total up to 32, maybe?

If seven's the most powerfully magical number, then this card must be why the game's called Magic.
(that sentence has 77 letters. wat.)

I reported a typo in the rulings several times, but no one ever fixed that. It's: "a creature with lifelink", not: "a creature will lifelink".

Seven instances of the digit 7...
7 CMC = 8
7 lines of text = 9
7 in the collector number = 10
I'm counting ten instances of 7... any more? Ok...
If you wanna get real picky...
'Trample', 'becomes', 'reduces', and 'instead' are the seven letter words on the card.
For a grand total of 14 instances of '7'. TWO sets of seven for our friend here.

This card is AWESOME. (< another seven letter word. Perfect. <hey, another seven letter word. Wow. Rollin'.)

So he's basically sort of a Worship stuck on a Wurm body?

@azure_drake222222: in addition, shroud and hexproof do not an invincible creature make - Wrath of God anyone.

Throw in Indestructible, and you're getting closer, but even then there are targetless sacrifice effects and Final Judgment.

Most of these effects fail to tiny life loss pings. This one technically does, but if you have an instant that gains you life and use it in response to your opponent doing the lethal damage you can waste a lot of their time and resources. Nourish suddenly doesn't look so bad!

Of course, if you're a REAL boss you'll try and get back above seven life with Tavern Swindler.

The number 7 is featured on the card 7000 times!

Ya, when I saw this card for the first time I was lovin the resemblance to Triceratops.
Such a great concept for a wurm.

I love everything about this card's image.

I imagine the setting as being in the deepest part of some ancient jungle-forest. Perhaps he's the guardian of a long-forgotten temple or something of the like. The amount of sunshine filtering through the canopy sheds an awesome light of power upon Elderscale Wurm. You can really feel his immense presence just from looking at him. Despite his size he seems like the type of ancient beast that could easily go unnoticed if he wished to. You could walk by him or over him without realizing it or perhaps he's always got his eye on you no matter where you are in the jungle - watching through the trees from a great distance.

As a playable item, definitely a neat card and I thoroughly enjoy this guy. I like cards that condition your life. Platinum Emperion is another cool creat... (see all)

Ruling question:

I'm 90% sure of the answer to this question, as the rulings window makes clear that damage being dealt to wurm and player simultaneously cannot prevent the wurm's ability to maintain the life total despite the damage dealt, however it describes a single spell doing this, and so I want to certain.

Suppose my opponent is at 7 life and has an Elderscale Wurm out, and I have a Deadly Recluse (1/2 Deathtouch) and a Ghoultree (10/10).

I miracle a Revenge of the Hunted and cast it on my Deadly Recluse, making it a 7/8 deathtouch trample which must be blocked by all creatures able to do so, and then I attack with both of my creatures. My opponent is forced to block the Deadly Recluse with his Elderscale Wurm, which leaves the Ghoultree unblocked. My Deadly Recluse destroys his Elderscale ... (see all)

This worm is brought to you by the letter "E", and by the number "7!"
