May seem useless, but it can still give some mana excel I guess.

Proliferate would be rather slow with this, since it would only net you one additional counter. Gilder Bairn would probably be a little more efficient since it would double the amount, typically netting you more than one counter.

What's really funny is that Gilder Bairn + Paradise Mantle + Training Grounds + This is infinite colorless mana + infinite counters. Which for a four card combo, kind of has much better alternatives out there. For instance, the aforementioned combo - this and - gilder bairn, + Pili-Pala. Infinite colored mana much sooner. Less cards involved. If you can figure out a way to make the former combo better by utilizing ice counters somehow, then good on you.

Turn it into a creature somehow without losing its abilities (Memnarch + Animate Artifact for example) and use Training Grounds to get 1 for 1!!

A rechargeable colorless mana battery? Could be an asset in EDH games. Charge it up each round just before your turn. Use it here and there when you need an extra mana. And it will always have a use in repeatedly bringing back your commander.
