This is the exact art for Expedition Map, give or take a few hands.
Anyway, it's not terrible at all. When playing a slower format (like EDH), this is more a relief than Grim Monolith or Mana Crypt. Sure, if you had Voltaic Key/Unwinding Clock, they're great, but that's a second piece to make your artifacts work their best.
It repays its cost in 2 turns, and is an artifact. Personally, I think Memnarch EDH does well with this. Sure, it's not Sol Ring, but that's like comparing Black Lotus to Lotus Petal.

Wow, everybody hates on this card so much. Sure, it's no Sol Ring, but what is? Yes, Thran Dynamo is better. But seriously, why not play them all? I have a pretty sweet Kozilek, Butcher of Truth EDH deck, where ramping is essential, and I play all of the above. I also run the functionally identical Ur-Golem's Eye, and frankly, I wish there were even more of them! Solid card.
