Black Lava Spike with flashback. What's not to like?

I really like this card. The flavour is actually awesome.

There's a bump in the night and it hurts you. It's not the end of the world, but it still hurts. Since it stays in the graveyard, it kind of haunts the player "when will it come again?" in a similar way you would feel if you had a night terror or something.

As for power, I really like it as well. I have it as a 2-of in my modern peasant deck (5-colour burn deck) as a way to keep my opponent worrying. It's a nice way to close a game by dropping something like 2 or 3 burn spells on 1 turn to finish them off, or as a flashback mini-burn to get rid of that last 2 or 3 life.

Look at it as more of a lava axe variant where it is much more useful in the early game, but can still have that over-costed, but valuable damage later in the game.

I started playing magic when Innistrad came out, and this has been one of my favourite cards ever since. The sheer flavor and name of this one... I can't quite explain it, but I tend to do a small shoulder tackle move and a voice that sounds like a walrus every time I play this.

There's very few cards that draw smiles around the table when you play them. This is one of 'em.

I don't like hard-to-use Flashback costs. I REALLY don't like them. :/ You want to play Past in Flames if you use this.

Also, this was the first Black/x vs. Black/x Duel Deck, and they failed to put in Doom Blades and good Black creatures in both decks for the lolz.

I don't know whether I'm proud of Wizards for resisting the temptation, or annoyed that the ironic chance of actually not being able to cast Doom Blade because the thing you want to kill is Black will now probably never happen, anywhere. Considering that all the instance where it would matter, the deck using Doom Blade probably has something else like a Counterspell for the Black creatures..

Or one of like 3 common Black instants that hit Black creatures. (Go For the Throat, Victim of Night, and Ultimate Price)

I like this. Burn spells complement black very well. For one mana, burn spells don't get much better. The flashback is good to have around, and can certainly be a good use for the spare mana you get near the end of a game.
