NOOO MY GOHEI

Dammit Kataki. You would've been so cool otherwise. Oh well, at least Drogskol Captain doesn't hate you.

Between her and Thalia it's really easy to run hosing main-deck forcing everyone you fight into aggro v aggro.

This screws up aether vial and friends more. Death & Taxes doesn't need her because they just try to lock you down and control you. Affinity is probably too fast; and the two can't compete at all against zoo.

This gal's slots probably go to removal or lopsided creatures for efficient trades.

Awww look, it got a second chance to be around in time for Modular and it didn't arrive late! Good ol' Kataki! That's a heartwarming card story if I ever saw one.

And now for the sequel: "Late Cards 2: Skylasher Boogaloo"

@blurrymadness: Kataki is a he. It is stated as such in his flavor text.

But I agree, Thalia and Kataki can really shut down non-creature based strategies, and even then you now have stuff like Imposing Sovereign or Blind Obedience.

This is one of the most obvious examples of wizards creating a card to try and fix something in a previous set. Even with all the bans and two Kamigawa sets released this was still needed and if I remember correctly it actually didn't help at all. The only thing that finally stopped mirrodin's dominance was Ravnica rotating it out of standard.

You know, whilst Kamigawa's power levels were sub-par, looking back there were some real gems amongst the terrible overcosted junk. This is one of those gems.

Check out Tabernacle of Pendrell Vale. In THEORY Atali is SUPPOSED to be right. That was the intent.

My understanding of the general consensus says that if MAGIC were good, then this card would matter a lot more. As far as Standard goes, no, this card never mattered and Affinity was Sillier than Seuss. XD
As far as Extended goes, I believe it was the same story.

I think older, fouler things than Arcbound Ravager have always ruled Legacy and Vintage, but I could be wrong. For interesting context, could anyone post what Legacy looked like roughly when Kataki was Standard-legal?

However, Modern is just the format for Kataki to shine in. He will keep Arcbound Ravager from getting banned. He, um, makes no promises that you'll actually win if you play him though. You want to build the whole shebang with Knight of the Reliquary and Tarmogoyf if you want want him to do that much for you XD

TL;DR: You NEED ... (see all)
