For eight freaking mana, you'd think this effect would at least make each player reveal cards until a nonland card is revealed.

Sure, when you're playing with many players this is a beast (not just in terms of Oracle text), but so are many other cards, and the more players, the more likely this is going to be targeted for removal.
Which is particularly relevant since this doesn't have any form of protection against it.

If you're playing with fewer players, you'll probably still get more P/T out of it than you paid mana for.
But I don't want want to invest that much mana in a creature that might end up as 6/6 or less, which isn't too unlikely given that roughly each third player will topdeck a land and has a mana curve around 3-4.

So bad. It's from naya and you can't even get it with mayael. Bad design, weak as hell. Maybe as a legendary for 5 mana it would have been cool.

This looks like the same place that Haze Frog is chillin.

With Lantern of Insight and some mill you can easily take the gambit out of the mana cost.

Hmmm. I feel like you can just cast bigger stuff for the same cost. Fun card, though.

This card has some major weaknesses, but I am still surprised commenters have to go all the way to "it's unplayable" because of those weaknesses. It's still a fun card with those weaknesses. The biggest issue though, I feel, is that it only happens when you cast it, so there's no cheating it into play and it's not going to survive getting flickered. The card has potential though, and it will be playable to many players who like high-variance cards.

Who cares. This cards is not playable in any format.

Funny. I'd thought that one could use this at least in Commander.

It's a cool card, but it's also incredibly risky. I usually play EDH with 4 other guys, but there's still the chance of revealing cheap cards/lands, at which point the Soulbeast is horribly overcosted. They could've at least have made it a 5/5 so Mayael would be able to cast it. As it is, I'll probably sadly take it out for something like a Mossbridge Troll or Worldspine Wurm.
