A burn spell that one-shot Jace, the Mind Sculptor, even after it activates once, that's quite enough for me.

Hits every standard planeswalker the turn they come out providing Izzet a way to deal with them that isn't creature oriented. Worst case scenario you have to burn a creature for 5... Which is still good 4/5.

This card has been analyzed to death in the rumor forums and there hasn't been any card before it that has quite this big of an effect for its cost just like the whole cycle. 4/5 in my book since I will surely be running Boros Reckoner in any deck running this anyway.

Gives some nice late game fuel for RDW after three turns of aggressive creatures.

I've seen a few people compare this to Hero's Downfall. Which, to me, isn't exactly fair, because red was never meant to have unconditional removal spells. In case you have noticed, MONO-RED IS A THING RIGHT NOW! And this is about as good as it gets when you're dealing with red removal, disregarding other colors. It does not kill Desecration Demon, which is a huge missed opportunity, but fortunately the demon will cycle out before this does. So please, quit being so demanding and be happy that red has a heavy hitting removal spell. If this card offends you so much, then DON'T RUN MONO-RED. I'd go 3.75/5 but this website doesn't allow me that option, so I'm forced to round up in this case (4/5)

As far as the scry is concerned, don't let that perk detract your focus from what this is. It's an instant speed removal spell. Seeing how it will often be treated as such, I don't know if the scry will often be utilized, but at least it's a nice perk.

This whole cycle is hard for me to love because I hate CCC color costs, but they are woefully underrated by most of the people here. Sure, you don't get to scry if you do it on their turn, but people forget that a lot of times it doesn't matter if you cast it on your turn or theirs.

It doesn't deal with Desecration Demon. It's automatically bad. Sure, it kills planeswalkers. So does attacking with the four 2/1's that you could have played for that much mana, and so does pretty much every other burn spell in red, and if Guttersnipe is around, they all one-for-one planeswalkers too. If you bring this in main board specifically to deal with planeswalkers, you're doing mono-red wrong.

Also, Purphoros, God of the Forge does the job just as well, and does it with creatures.

I mean, really, Molten Birth does one less damage to planeswalkers with Purphoros on the field, gives you two 1/1's and is just as hard, if not harder, to deal with as just playing this spell. It's also repeatable. Heck, even if it gets countered, you still have the mana to cast an Akroan Crusaders if it gets countered. Or heck, cast a Young Pyromancer first, then cast Molte... (see all)

Meh. Couldn't this have hit players in exchange for costing 1 more? As is, it's relatively underwhelming.
