Did anyone else notice how Gideon Jura just snuck by in the flavor text?

It's a sorcery because granting vigilance at instant speed results in bad feelings when players realize that vigilance is really only useful before the combat step, at the end of your main phase. Just going by initial cost, strive cost, and the stats and bonuses it grants, this is a very potent limited finisher. Red/White wants it, but probably only one or two copies as it kind of stinks in multiples. It definitely deserves more than the 2.5 rating it has at the time of this posting.

The Strive cost will be limited by the color requirements. You have to have 50-50 RedWhite to do this very many times, so any decks with a primary and splash color will have limited results.

Pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that the whole point of this is to be a first pick when drafting R/W Heroic.

4/5, easy.

1. Amazing Artwork; it's like watching the 300 in a single card.
2. General Utility: Although it's not instant speed, this card is still a very effective power boost that is likely to soak damage through AND won't leave you defenseless. It being sorcery, the first strike really is just an incentive for your opponent NOT to block, thus maximizing the effectiveness of this card.
3. Versatility: Finds a spot as a round 2 card, and finds a spot round 35. There will almost never be a time in a game where this card has absolutely no effect (the obvious exception is if you lack creatures)
4. Relevance to Block theme: The hefty mana cost is worth BECAUSE using this on more than one creature with heroic will cause another 3-4 buffs to go off just from card; it can effectively be used to overrun in the right deck. (King of Akros would love this, for example, along with phalanx leader.)
5. Relevance to colors in card: White decks can always a... (see all)

All you had to do was make this an Instant, Wizards.

I wouldn't say vigilance justifies Sorcery speed, however.
+2/+0 and first strike will barely do anything when your opponent can see it coming.

This would have been so much more as an Instant. And it should have been one.
Especially considering the mana-intensive cost, which makes it hard to cast the Strive cost even just once.

Makes sense that it's a sorcery since it grants vigilance, but it's a little underwhelming. It would have been cool to see a card with an off-color strive cost, and this seems like the top candidate for it.

It's too expensive cost - not worth it for a combat trick.
Avoid the card at all cost in limited - it won't see construcetd play!

Wow guys, sure this could be an instant, but we already have a solution! Throw in Vedalken Orrery and it has flash! For just 4 measly mana!
