Love how the ruling teaches you how to abuse the stack, lol.

@Sorian

When Rishadan Pawnshop's ability resolves, Avarice Totem would no longer be under your control and so the target would be invalidated.

Does his name not imply that he wants to be called Tobyor and not Toby?
...err wait, i misread this name. Damn you, Spaceless names without camel cases >.>'

Let's conjure up your memories about the stack: Last in, first out (or LIFO for short). Targets are checked twice, once an ability goes on the stack and once it resolves.

So the first thing you do is tapping the Top.
Then you activate the Totem's ability the first time and choose the Top.
Now you activate it a second time and finally target an opponent's permanent.
If nobody wants to respond anymore, the stack gets emptied:
You exchange control with the Totem and your opponent's goodie.
Then the other exchange resolves and gives you back the totem and leaves your opponent with the Top.
Last but not least the Top's ability resolves, you draw a card, put the Top on top, and you opponent is left with nothing.
Activating the Totem's ability twice and replaying the Top amounts to 11.

That trick also works with autoca... (see all)

I know we like listing combos and all (you big bunch of Johnnys) but what's wrong with playing this the way it's SUPPOSED to be used? Just wait...till J. Random Sucker is tapped out (or at least doesn't have 5 mana) USE it and then pop it (via your favorite destroy target artifact) or boomerang it?

..oh yeah, this and capsize. Nevermind, I'm a Johnny too.

This + Sensei's Divining Top (both searchable by Trinket Mage) = 11 mana to take any nonland permanent permanently! ^^

Even if it is more color-intensive and comes out later, I like Memnarch better for recurring permanent stealing. Memnarch can take lands, too.

@Mode

Can the Totem be used with Rishadan Pawnshop or am I actually jacking people off?

What in the nine hells would happen if you were to duplicate the effect with Rings of Brighthearth?
