A fine card that suffers greatly when taken out of the context it was originally played in. Mirage era MTG featured plentiful removal, cheap burn and hard counters, so keeping creatures on the table was often an uphill struggle. Therefore ol' Hammer filled a vital niche for many control oriented decks simply by providing a reusable and reasonably evasive damage source. Oftentimes you'd only use the hammer once or twice but that was often enough to finish what your Viashino Sandstalkers started.

Pretty good, its a reusable card for late game when you draw a land. I think a card that can used more than use is great. (especially for red, which is low on good draw spells)

3 mana for three damage the first time around, but a total of 8 for each 3 damage after that. Reusability is awesome and all but at that price there has to be a better way.

it's quite obvious what needs to be done:

this needs to be adapted into a Flashback card. a big one, not just Geistflame.
