good thing to use in a necropotence deck if you don't have ivory towers.

he has a good point here, though. this card can at most find a little use in block constructed (which is "seven cards in hand is the sh*t"-themed regarding Saviors of Kamigawa) but in general this is overshadowed by other cards since this is a hardly achievable situation.
also, life gain does not equate to lifeloss.
You'll most likely also notice that when comparing Ivory Tower to Iron Maiden.
Of course if this artifact's cost was reduced to {{1}} or even {{0}}, the lifegain would have been easy to get again, maybe too easy for standard. But they could have kept the mana cost and increase the lifegain to 6 or something instead, though.

I think that used along with cards that draw cards for life points (Necropotence, Dark Confidant, Greed, ecc...) it could be quite easy to keep 7 cards in hand, so you can recover more easily from the life loss... I think that it has its uses, even better that Ivory Tower in that this gives you more life for the same numer of cards, but worse if you run Reliquary Tower... All said, I don't think that is so bad, if you like Ivory Tower...!

3.5/5

I came here to comment on the card, but I think I just want to say that I wish DrJack were my friend.

Someone's obviously not spent a lot of time dickering around in kamigawa.

How can you guys think this card is not good? If you only have 7-8 cards in your hand, this is BETTER than Ivory Tower. There are ways to have seven cards in your hand besides not casting any spells. Guess you kids didn't know that.

We all remember how good the Ivory Tower was, right? Well, obviously not. You don't remember the games where one player was sitting there with more than 70 life. I'll bet you new players don't even think Library of Alexandria was a good card either.

If it doesn't have "Trample, Doublestrike, Vigilance, Haste, and Lifelink", then you children just don't even want to look at it. We could have renamed it "Phyrexian Colostomy Bag" and had some "hilarious" yuk-yuk Mark Rosewater text, or had a picture of an ugly, screaming ogre brutally dismembering goblins, and fiery explosions with oversaturated colors in the background, and then you kids would drool all over it and rate it 4.5/5 stars.

The real question is not if this card is terrible which it is. Cards like Kraken's eye or things like that can easily out pace it. No the real question is why do you have more then 7 cards in your hand. Are you playing magic or just drawing. This is no where realistic card to play. Which make it a terrible card

I'm not really experienced at magic, but I came across 4 of these for free. I could not for the life of me find a way for them to work in any deck. They very quickly got put in my "I will never look at these again" pile.

The question is, where the hell did they get ivory out of which to carve this thing? There aren't any elephants in kamigawa that I'm aware of.
