Pretty interesting, actually. I like the mechanic/flavor combination.

Seems a shame. This guy would've made a much nicer reprint in M12 than Brindle Boar. You trade one life for a possible 3/3. Maybe they just didn't want so many 3/3's for 3cmc. In any case, I miss chompin' on some Gristle!

It stll pains me to tell the story, but I'll try:
It was the summer of 2008. Gristleback, bloodthirst enabled, had just entered the battlefield. He was young and eager to fight, though he felt too summoning sick to do so. When our controller passed the turn, I thought Gristly might be safe. How foolish was I.
Our opponent attacked. To my horror, Gristly was commanded to block. I tried to stop him, told him he wasn't ready to fight yet, but Gristleback insisted on charging onto the front lines.
The battle was crazy. Lightning Bolts were flying left and right. One barely missed Gristly, hitting a nearby flagbearer instead. Gristleback smashed through a skeleton, only for it to reassemble behind him. I was very relieved to see he was safe.
The next turn, our owner told Gristleback to block a pride of lions. With a vines of vastwood in hand, this move was a logica... (see all)

@marmaris74: get your story right. Reassembling Skeleton is from 2010 and Vines of Vastwood is from 2009.
@card: always good to gain a lot of life after an Overwhelming Stampede.

I get the feeling that Boartusk Lieges are mounted on Gristlebacks.

Compares nicely to Brindle Boar. This could get you more life and a bigger body, but needs a little more work. Solid.
