I like this card over Duress in most situations because, like Mode said, most of the cards you are going to want to force your opponent to discard cost 3 mana or less anyways, and if your opponent doesn't have any noncreature spells in hand, don't sweat because this can nab a creature under 3 mana cost too. Good against the R/W/G ally deck running around standard right now.

Duress is best used right before you cast your game finisher to make sure your oponent wont counter it or at least make them use it up on Duress itself. I have a deck that can produce 8 mana on turn 4 to cast Duress followed by a Violent Ultimatum, a lot of fun.

Inquisition of Kozilek is a bit more versatile than Duress, because you are also able to pick Spot removoval, Combo parts, most of Counterspells, Ramping spells and even -depending on your strategy - early Creature drops from your opponents hand.

Althought it's not in the same league as Thoughtseize, because there are still limits by picking cards with CMC <=three. The loss of 2 life per resolve is, for most matchups except for burn decks, not relevant.

In Vintage and Legacy there are no decks in the Metagame with no targets and it pitches everyting from Combo cards until Creature Lords except Force of Will. In Extended there are only a few decks where you can pick fewer than 50 percent of the cards e.g. Llark Decks. In most matchups you can pick 70-90 percent from nonland Cards from your opponents hand.

The upcoming Standard Decks will surely profit of a versatile discarding spell.

Prost!

Does anyone realize how much this common was played at worlds? Every single BlueBlack control deck had several copies of Duress or Inquisition of Kozilek in their deck. Some decks played both and most of the time it was in the main not the board. I have been using it recently in a similar UB build but keeping Memoricide in the main deck. By having a first turn look at their hand I know what card to pick when I play a fourth turn Memoricide. I used to board it because I didn’t know what was in their hand or deck until game two. With this card there is no longer an issue!

Potter, this is uncommon, unless you are saying it was commonly played. But the way you worded it, it sounds like you think it is a common, while it isn't.

This was so good it was played in over half the decks in the Grand Prix Barcelona, including the winner.

wait, wait, wait ,wait

i know this card is good, but isnt the only advantage over duress that it can discard creatures? (yes i know it removes a lot of the nasty troubles like squadron hawk)

id put this as more useful than duress, but id definitely keep duress in the sideboard for control decks (i hate you jace)

This seems worse than Duress in Standard, especially mid to late game. Unless you're worried about cheap pro-black creatures or creatures with good "comes into play" abilities. I guess Squadron Hawk and Stoneforge Mystic are two creatures you might want to take out early with Inquisition. Any thoughts on Inquisition versus Duress?
