I think the flavor here is awesome. He's trying to upgrade something (in particular something that isn't yours, i.e, he stole it) and fails spectacularly. It's hard not to burst out laughing when using this guy.

If creature type isn't an issue, I'd try to use Viashino Heretic instead. Still, this guy looks totally cool.

Everyone else has mentioned why this card can be potentially awesome and bring great utility, so I'll bring up a weird detail about this: due to its wording, the artifact is the source of damage, so granting protection from artifacts via something like Tower of the Magistrate will completely negate the drawback of its ability. I love the art, and flavorwise, this demented little goblin must be making the artifacts Detonate!
