Solid and absolute removal. Green has cheaper ways, but most of them have some sort of cost or drawback. Too expensive for tournament decks, but it can find a home in Commander. I love the clunky wording - "any card" = does that mean all the cards or just one? And it didn't originally work on tokens since they are not "cards!"

It cost two green mana! The poor print job on the cc in Arabian Nights, makes this card a bargain, but even for a cc of 6, this card is good. 5/5 for nostalgia.

@A3Kitsune
But it also fails to hit token permanents.

At first, it seems kind of underwhelming.
6 CMC to destroy any permanent? That's a little... I dunno, costly!

However, it hit me while constructing a mono-green EDH deck: Green has no creature removal!

Sure, there's Hurricane and Whirlwind, and you could play Brittle Effigy, but the first two only target flyers, and the second only targets 1 creature!

So, either you have to play Lure on a deathtouch creature or Predatory Rampage, or this. Therefore, I think this should be given a chance.

However, if it were in any other colour (even Blue), it'd not be 1/10th as highly rated.

Oddly enough, modern Magic's successor to this is Acidic Slime, which is a more creature-oriented means of removing things than old spells like this or Creeping Mold. Interestingly, this ancient spell from the game's infancy also kills planeswalkers.

No-questions-asked removal in green? What's not to like? Yes, it's expensive, but green always has tons of mana and few removal options. Get rid of whatever is stoppin' the stompin'. Bonus points, as always, for using the Arabian Nights one. 4.5/5
