The only real downside in comparison to other enchantments is that it's one of the select few that is very vulnerable to being countered seeing as you have to repeatedly cast it. Not to mention someone could force you to discard it after you return it to your hand.
The plus side to this situation is that is someone tries to downright destroy it while it's in play you can always sac it and return it you your hand.
Good card, though.

I run this in a BR deck with Magma Phoenix. It's nice to be able to abuse its death effect even by itself (you can res the creature you just sacrificed).

@NoobOfLore: you can't chose to both sac it and return it to your hand. the sacing happens first and when it says "Return Recurring Nightmare to it's owner's hand" it's referring to the permanent named Recurring Nightmare, not the card itself. So you can't pay the full cost of the activated ability that way.

i too have entertained dreams of many lulz with Opalescence, Pandemonium, and this card. Fortunately there are much more OP cards to play with all the aforementioned.

good luck with your shenanigans! hope u have as much fun with those cards as i have XD

I use this in my mon-black Zombie deck. It's especially annoying with Grave Pact!

Why is the first instance of the word "Return" capitalized in the Oracle wording?

Hello Morbid!

Looks like we found another way to abuse Recurring Nightmare, sac a creature to bring back a creature with morbid, instantly satisfying the condition, repeatedly.

Edit: after having made another deck with this card in it (to try and take advantage of the casual-sexiness that is Ulvenwald Tracker), it just boggles the mind how broken this card is in casual circles, with the main culprit this time around being Acidic Slime. Acidic Slime on the field and in the grave = repeatable Stone Rain. Stone Rain should not be so easy to achieve. Throw in Ulvenwald Tracker and you have another source of repeatable removal. Love the card so I'll keep playing it, but it does make me feel a little dirty knowing how difficult it can prove to be at times.

@WhiteMcFly: no, you can't bring back the creature you just sacrificed. While players often shortcut their way around casting spells and activating abilities, doing the steps in any order to reach the final goal, technically costs are always paid AFTER targets are selected. That is, the creature won't be in the graveyard by the time you're choosing a target.

Personally, I didn't know this card existed until I... (see all)

grave titan plus recurring nightmare equals 2x 2/2 zombies a turn where x is the number of times you can play recurring nightmare a turn with the mana you have
