This is simply great card design. Feed the source of his strength and trample makes him very relevant. I can easily see a mill deck in standard running this.

What's the deal with people talking about cards like Noxious Revival and Wreath of Gheists?

You do realize that, when you play this card, you will only see every third card of your deck?

I currently have a Standard-legal deck that I play at home with my friends that includes Splinterfright. I have not seen a single post on here that regards my unique playstyle.

EVERYTHING has to have a purpose in the graveyard - especially if you're milling everything anyway. There is no room for chances, no room to leave cards that you cannot get anything for. Milling Noxious Revival means that you've guaranteed yourself 1 less possible power and toughness.

Let's not forget about...

Kessig Cagebreakers
Spider Spawning

If there is going to be a massive amount of anything in your graveyard, and you build a deck full of creatures, then say hello to, at least, guaranteed endless ranks of spiders.... (see all)

@infernox10: but then you'll just mill it away again before you draw it next turn, so you need some card draw to get that card into hand. otherwise it's completely pointless.

this guy is one of my favourite cards from innistrad, and i have really high hopes for him in standard.

A hilarious play happened the other day. My opponent threw one onto the field with exactly two creatures in the yard. They were both Llanowar Elves that were sacrificed with the intention of fueling this guy. And as luck would have it, I had Surgical Extraction in my hand. I don't think I need to explain what immediately happened next.

@JFM2796

I had a play just like that. I was running a slightly modified version of the grave power intro deck at my last FNM. My opponent was running red, and on her turn, she attacked me with everything she had. I had a Ghoultree and a Splinterfright on the field, but I didn't block. She knocked me down to 3 life. She was still at 20, but at this point, she was also tapped out. On my turn, I drew a wreath of geists, pumped my Splinterfright from 8/8 to 16/16 and swung for lethal.

Expletives were involved.

@Diamondragan

That's the strategy I run now. Everything in my deck is either designed to let me discard cards, or designed to capitalize off of the cards I discarded. I consistently mill myself out by turn 15.

So made a self mill deck. Popped in four of these to help with the milling. The idea, of course, is to win off of Laboratory Maniac.
They're more like an alternative wincon now because Splinterfright beats so much face it isn't funny. Good heavens.

With Golgari's new Scavenge keyword, I have a feeling this guy will see some serious improvements.
Also, Grisly Salvage (When it comes to Gatherer, it'll work.)

The one thing I'm confused about is how it tramples. I'm not arguing, but it just seems odd given the art.
