Fun to use with cards like Act of Treason or Mark of Mutiny. It also means that whenever an opponent Doom Blades a creature of yours, you can gain 1 life.

Eh. I'd play it in a mono or colorless deck. It's a sac outlet and you can get life for chump-blocking and in response to doom blade.
Actually now that I think about it it's better than it looks.

It's a nonbasic land with a built-in (pretty dang useful) ability that doesn't come into play tapped. Yes, it should be rare.
