Looooove this guy in EDH. Any EDH deck I make with these colors, this guy is a staple. Since Non-basic lands are the majority of what people run, this guy can hit for some serious damage. And, being a zombie (nevermind his unearth) he's easy to get back in the right deck to do again and again.

This card actually does fairly well in red/black EDH, where most people are using a lot of nonbasic lands anyway.

This is an excellent card for blightning decks, even maindecked. It's cheap and can be a 2/2 creature for 3 that might as well read, "When Anathemancer comes into play, it deals (2-3) damage to target player" in the current metagame and obsession with non-basic lands. I think the unearth cost is a bit high too, but the fact that it has unearth is devastating as it is; even if it gets countered, it can still come back late in the game to provide a potential game-changing, uncounterable amount of damage. The only thing is that, yeah, he sucks in draft and sealed, but constructed is where this guy was made to shine.

You're totally safe with maindecking this guy, he's guaranteed to do some serious damage. 5/5.

Usually his ability will hit for at least 1 or 2 damage, if you're playing against a deck that runs lots of non-basic, that damage can easily jump to say, 4 or 5. The unearth ability later on is amazing since in a {B} {R} deck, he can help get those last few points in if you start to run out of steam. Unearth is also great since you can sacrifice him to abilities like Nantuko Husk to generate extra effects then unearth him later in the game.

great sideboard card against a 5 color control deck, or any other 3 color or more deck. Seriously, in real competition, roughly 80% of lands are nonbasic for most competitive decks. That means you save these until late game, and they come in for a hefty 5-7 damage or so, which will cause the opponent to counter in many cases. However, that only took you 3 mana, so it also clears the way for meatier spells. They can't let it resolve because it could mean the game. 4/5

Personally, I like the high unearth cost. It creates an interesting game state while Anathemancer is in the graveyard but before the player has the 7 mana available to use. The opponent will have to rethink playing additional non-basic lands. If the unearth cost was 4-5 there would be much less time between when it is cast and unearthed.

This is an excellent card. Price of Progress on legs with a flashback. I feel like this would be an amazing card in Modern Jund decks, especially as a replacement for the recently banned Bloodbraid Elf. Picked up a foil from a friend, just to have. Who knows, maybe it'll end up like Trigon Predator and be worth $25 foil in a few years. I wouldn't mind that.

If you run basic lands, you're probably a monocolor deck and at that probably mono-red. Otherwise if you play standard or extended you're pretty much screwed. This guy's like a zombie grenade.
