I've been able to play him in my Mono-White Soldier deck, and with enough time, make him into a 5 / 8 first strike defender. My opponent was frozen, especially since I had two Perimeter Captains on the field too. Used right, while there may be other Defenders that are better, he becomes a beast.

A defender who grows over time in your ally deck, not bad. The introduction of the Hada Freeblade in Worldwake makes him a lot better.
Keep in mind that he is also a 1/4 as soon as he hits the field, which is a big difference over something that does no damage. Instant stopper for annoying tokens, early 1/1 beaters, etc.

he might not look like much, but every white deck (including mine) at pre-release had him. and spidersilk nets. it didnt take more than a turn or two before he became a quite irritable wall to deal with. he wont win the game, for sure, but he bought an awful lot of time on more than one occasion.

Yeah a decent defender for draft and slower ally decks. He starts off as an ok blocker and gets better with time, all while helping trigger useful abilities on other cards.

The flavour text fits perfectly. The more allies you play, the more "resolute" he becomes. He is an average ally, but he has the potential to become alot more than average.

Due to the default low power, I can't help but wonder why Defender was necessary on this guy.
I could only see myself playing this in a WU mill ally deck or in a singleton format.

Probably one of the weakest white cards in Zendikar, but if you're already got a fair amount of allies in limited then he's not completely unplayable...
