Sigh. This effect should have been on a smaller creature instead.
As a five-drop it should have provided -1/-1 counters instead. Then it would have teamed up so greatly with Necroskitter, also regarding artwork and flavor in general.
A global -1/-1 effect as DlCK proposed would have also made this card a pretty playable, like a landfall version of Noxious Ghoul.
But as it is i don't like it that much.

He's so-so in a mono black deck, deping on what your opponent is playing, somewhat better in a landfall deck (though there aren't really that many other good black landfallers spare ob nixilis, who's legendary). Where this guy really shines is when coupled with Warp World, since you'll get quite a few lands into play at once, letting you kill off even some of the bigger threats on the board (in case warp world didn't screw things up enough for your opponent)
And another card that he works well with is Scapeshift, thought you'd probably be better off using that with Baloth Woodcrasher

Guys,
Stop complaining about how card X could be made more powerful by giving it ability Y, or reducing its cost by Z. We get it. You like the card, but all you can focus on is power level, and not "would it be fun to play with this card". But, if every card in the game was made more powerful, card X would continue to be not that impressive.
There's nothing wrong with Caustic Crawler. He played solid defense whenever I got a chance to draft him, and I could easily envision putting him into a landfall Commander deck. If he popped up in one of my packs for Thursday league, I would think about warping my deck to accommodate him. There are tons of possibilities for otherwise 'bad' cards. Stop showing off how uncreative and negative you can be, and start adding to the community you live in.

The card is mediocre, but the art is absolutely wicked.

Begs to be played with Marsh Casualties, since his ability doesn't cost anything, and he can attack with impunity if the sweep took out the threats.

good card in limited. but this card is really good in a green/black deck since of all the landfalls green can bring out

i don't know what you guys are on. this card's amazing. think landfall- think easily destroying your opponent's creatures almost every turn. what the hell's not to like?

The landfall mechanic on this guy is strong, but the problem is that -1/-1 on a single target really isn't all that devastating. Sure, he's great for knocking out some tokens or maybe a single creature that is a pain like Birds of Paradise, but even with an aggressive landfall play like Harrow or Khalni Heart Expedition, you're going to max-out at -3/-3. Is that good? Sure, but it isn't great.

If you were playing a Landfall themed deck that blended with black, he's got some potential. I think the card could potentially be very strong in multiple numbers.... then you start looking at taking out large numbers of creatures like elves or saprolings, or dropping a big guy in its tracks. But again, for 5CC you could probably kill something more efficiently.

I will say that the art on this card is incredible... it is one of the best looking creatures in the game.

One last thought... for mono-black creatures in Standa... (see all)

meh, not as bad as i thought it would be when i played it (but it is still kinda bad, yet unique). Im playing this is a black/green deck and cuz of greens mana acc, i dont have much trouble getting him out, plus Khalni Heart Expedition or Verdant Catacombs means i can play his ability when i need it

This bug may be better then it appears. In a landfall deck you could get 5 mana by turn three easy. Pull him out turn 4 and start dropping lands and killing weaklings. With the added bonus to take out multiples in a single turn and weaken enemy biggies he could quite good. The issue is that he is caught in that position where he should cost slightly less, but if he was any cheaper he would be too good... Decent body for black makes up for it I guess.

Also, I wish every creature looked las sick as this one.

Also, Also, Combo with Bane of the living for a cool black insect deck.
