I agree, this sword seems off, I love the fact it can give anything pro-green (which is rare to start) and colorlessly to boot, but a sword making a wolf doesn't make sense. I'd rather have it Garruk and untap two of my lands, or fetch me a basic land to my hand.

The art is alright, although i do think Mark Zug should have been called back for this piece too, as he only made the other two.

Despite my quips about this, It'll still end up in an EDH or two. :D

Not a big fan of the blue ability. The green ability is pretty golden.

But the flavor. Oh man, the flavor is awesome. Blue and green happen to be my favorite color combination for the particularly specific "body and mind" relationship.

Oh Wizards.

On the one hand, he has protection from tarmagoyf. On the other hand, whenever he deals damage, he makes tarmagoyf *** huge. On the other hand he gives you a chump blocker every time he pumps goyf. on the other hand, he gives your opponent threshold and backfires miserably when you face dredge.

I don't know. I wouldn't run this in legacy (my favorite format) unless I also ran tarmogoyf.

In standard, all I can say is that the legendary eldrazi make milling worthless.

In casual, it could be good with bloodchief ascension and similar cards, but it's not good enough to be considered for serious play.

@GrimjawxRULES, I would disagree. I think the green side is much more powerful. While the blue side is more flashy, if you face someone running dredge or threshold or tarmagoyf or aggro loam, the blue side just helps them win, while the green side gives you chumps. I think if the blue side let you scry or draw this card would be very powerful indeed, because card advantage is more impo... (see all)

This card looks pretty cool. Nice artwork too. I wonder if it will be used in a lot of the new Standard Type decks. 4/5

it's funny how the mill 10 is based off a 2-mana card while (so far) the abilities were all based off of weak 1-mana cards.

Fire and ice - shock + cantrip (cantrips are usually worth 1 mana)
Light and shadow - healing salve + disentomb

I guess wizards realized that mill is horrible (even fi it's mill 10), so they made a 2/2 wolf as green's 1-mana ability.

Anyway, I thought wizards would have a pro-green and artifact card, but this basically confirms we'll eventually get a red+white and black+green one; one for each pair of enemy colors.

To all the people whining about protection from artifacts:

You cannot equip a creature who has protection from artifacts, and once the equipment is attached, if the creature gains protection from artifacts, the equipment will be unattached. Neat idea, but it can't happen. They would have to add the awkward text "This effect does not unattach CARDNAME" which would at least break the symmetry of the cycle.

From the Comprehensive Rules:

702.14d A permanent with protection can’t be equipped by Equipment that have the stated quality or fortified by Fortifications that have the stated quality. Such Equipment or Fortifications become unattached from that permanent as a state-based action, but remain on the battlefield. (See rule 704, “State-Based Actions.”)

i heard that there are two factions in scars, identified by the watermarks made so popular by the Ravnica block.

Actually, looking closely, this Simic combination isn't that bad, and in fact quite handy.

Think this, despite M11 and the Eldrazi brothers have deck recycling abilities, the milling allows you at least to see what's in their decks and what they can't cast later by observing the graveyards.

The 'wolf gain' is the assurance that you can always find someone to use the Sword in case the previous wielder gets bolted, Doom-bladed or Pathed.

Overall it is a good sword.

I have two points of view for this card: Standard and Legacy.

Standard: It's alright. Honestly, I don't know ANYONE that runs the eldrazi in the sideboard, so mill is alright. It stops green guys in their tracks, namely the pain in the ass vengevine. considering that the wolf is good enough to kill vengevine when you equip the sword, it's good to go.

Legacy: I could care less about the abilities. I'm just glad I have something to finally give my guys pro green in a stoneforge toolbox. And hey, free 2/2's are gooood, especially when removal is so scarce.

Also: the abilities from before were 1 mana, these are two. you don't get a 2/2 for G, even if it is a token. But what iconic green creature comes in at two mana? grizzly bears, a 2/2. Why not just make a bear token? Well, from what I've seen, wolves and beasts are the more iconic token creatures, and wolves really like to come in at the 2/2 slot. Why change that?

Come on! I'm hoping that we get a sword of Life and Death, and a sword of Order and Chaos.
