This card appears to be more powerful than it first appears. A player really doesn't need to totally undo a damage spell or source, just enough to let his own creatures or hide to survive. In addition to not having to dedicate his entire mana base to protect his creatures or life total, it acts as a direct damage burn spell or creature/planeswalker removal for no additional cost. Nevermind the fact that, for combat damage, it's a one sided fog and burn spell all rolled up into one, something a white weenie deck wouldn't mind having.

O yeah, there's no targeting in the prevention step.

@ Kage_Chitoshi: Your judge is a moron, and shouldn't be allowed to be a judge. It deals damage to "target creature or player." Not creature(s). Not player(s). It only deals damage to one target.

This card is extraordinary in token vs token decks. Say both you and your opponent have 4 1/1 flying spirit tokens. He swings with all, you block with all, then play this. Now he has 0 tokens, you have all 4, and he's down 4 life. Love it.

I prefer Shining Shoal because of its alternate cost, but this is one White cheaper and can redirect damage from multiple sources.

It's a solid card that makes people think twice about attacking you, which makes it a great multiplayer/EDH card.

It's great to be able to say to your opponents that they'll regret attacking you, and to have a direct way to make good on your promise.

@Cyberium: It sounded like you were saying that this would work against a 5+ Banefire. That is not the case.

If I misunderstood what you said... Sorry.

Ok this may sound dumb but I need a ruling on this. I was told by a DCI Judge that the damage from Divine Deflection can be spread among multiple targets... The card does not state this and the oracle text doesn't either. Since there are many cards that state on them that they can spread damage among any number of targets, I would think that this would also state that if it was true.

So, can the damage only target 1 creature or player, or can it target any number of creatures and/players?

Shining Shoal
I'd have to say this is overall a downgrade but it's not bad.

Avacyn Restored seems to me to have a lot of grammer issues and poor wordings. I've seen unnecessary commas after "ands" and such and the wording for this card is so confusing. what it is literally saying is that it prevents X damage to multiple things. Therefore if my opponent plays a pyroclasm, for example and does 2 damage to all my creatures, if i pay 2 for X for divine deflection, all damage being dealt to my creatures should be prevented. if it works how the rulings say then it she be worded as follows: "Prevent the next X damage that would be dealt to you and/or permanents you control, divided as you choose..." Like fireball's wording. I feel like the wording is just horrible for this whole set. Does anyone agree?? Has WOC changed some personnel? :/
