one of these days, I will log on to Gatherer in time to see a 5-star rating. :p

Then I will keep that page open, not refresh it, keep my computer plugged in forever, not restart and I will get to always look at it as moment frozen in time: Perfection.

@WarioMan
The idea is that you cycle him and reanimate him. Being able to get himself into the graveyard without card disadvantage is his strength.
He's not bad either, as a 5/3 with very cheap regeneration.

I don't know why this card is rated so high. After four turns in the precon deck the last thing I wanna see is more Swamps.

Is it just me, or is this edition really dark?

I don't remember how, But I got this thing up to a 15/13 with one card that gives it +7/+3 and it never untaps and another thing that gave it +3/+7 and vigilance or some odd combo that would equal 15/13 man, never got to use that combo more than once.

I always loved my twisted abominations. 5/3 regeneration is such a brawler. Or he can stabilize your mana early game, and you can pull him back up with your Lord of the Undead

Not a bad card. Similar to Krosan Tusker, he's fat that can tutor your land up. The nice thing about *this* guy is that he tutors up a swamp (E.G. Dual lands if you have them!) and does it for 2 mana. None of the other finishers in Green or Black (or any color as far as I could tell) were as strong of a finisher as this guy, as Regenerate takes an entire host of kill spells out of the picture:
-Most burn spells
-Pestilence effects
-Most combat damage
-Most black and black/x kill spells (either they can't target him, or he can regen)

Swamp cycling is for:
-Control decks (like one I run with him) where you *really* need at least 3 mana to get rolling and you plan on getting 5-6 mana finishers later. He gives you that and does it for 2 mana, something that Krosan Tusker can't do, nor can most 2-drops without that being their entire function.

-It's for reanimator decks as it's free discard, card neutral, and it gets fat in the 'yard when it could normally be counter... (see all)

This is one of my favourite creatures in Magic, weirdly enough. It isn't a powerhouse, but it's got enough things on it to be useful when you need a creature or something else.

When you're playing mono-black EDH, you usually need some means to get lands. It's one reason why I think Liliana of the Dark Realms is sometimes a better play in mono-black than Liliana Vess. You could (or should) have Armillary Sphere and Wayfarer's Bauble, but once they're in the grave, they provide you with almost nothing else. Black is one of the worst colours for abusing Artifacts.

But a creature is a whole different story. Reanimation and Mortivore-esque abilities run rampant in Black. Because of this, something like Absorb Vis is not as good to play.

Long story short, this is a great creature. A 4.0 rating is exactly what this needs.
