This card is great because it allows red to draw cards, wich is not very common, possibly making a burn deck even faster. If you dont get the draw (or counterspelled) the guy just takes five damage for 3CMC wich is somewhat hot.

the alternative presented to my opponets makes it feel just as fun as SkullScorch. It almost always gets me the draw, but then again, it's nice to have some drawing ability in a red-green deck.
A lot of fun and a good concept, and the art actually made me skim the books, so 4.5 or maybe even 5/5

Its not broken by any means, since drawing it later means your opponent chooses what's best for them. However as a third turn drop in a burn deck...that's just horrifying.

Hmmm...this could be really good in a red-white self-burn deck with Purity.
If they reprint this, though, they should have it draw more cards if no one pays up.

The card got its ups and downs.
It's somehow a "win more" card. If your opponent is very low on life, and has no choice but letting you draw cards, then you'll most likely win no matter what you do.
If your opponent is though having the upper hand, it's a "lose more" card. He'll just take 5 damage and you're most likely back to topdeck mode.
In aggressive 1vs1 decks it's ok. In any format though where you start with more than 20 life (edh/commander, 2hg or whatnot) it sucks.
