This guy is related to a character in the Planar Chaos book.

I agree with TopRomen, the Zealot deserves more love than this. He's a white pinger, that's a rarity. The artwork is great, the flavor is great, and so are the creature types- don't forget he's a rebel. That's basically the most loaded creature type in the game.

This guy must be a reference to Farrel's Zealot, with the suffix il-Vec a reference to a few creatures from the Rath block. This guy's good though, shadow means he's almost always unblockable, so every turn you can take out a creature with one toughness, or maybe a creature with one toughness left, like a Baneslayer Angel that got roasted by your Flametongue Kavu.

Along with Mercenaries and Ignoble Soldier, one of the few white cards that benefits from Leyline of Punishment :P

If you're running monowhite, you could also use Icatian Javelineers for one shot.
As for Soltari Guerrillas, I won't mark a card down for being outmatched by a more expensive gold card.

Any cool effects are completely overSHADOWed by the fact that you paid three mana for a 1/1.
get it?

I completely understand the low rating of this card due to its cost and power. However, in my Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero EDH deck, this guy is an all-star. Being essentially unblockable and dealing direct damage to creatures isn't something you see that often in white, so the 3 cmc seems a bit more "fair" from that perspective. As mentioned before, his utility is realized when equipped with anything granting deathtouch (Gorgon Flail, Basilisk Collar).
Though looking at the art I like to think he's throwing a Quietus Spike at someone. In my deck he usually is.
