Every card in Time Spiral was a throwback to at least one previously printed card.
This card references Lesser Gargadon, a similarly large creature which requires sacrifice to get going. Apparently Gargadons eat a lot.

Suspend with Jhoira of the Ghitu instead for a much lighter sacrifice load.

Jokulhaups will make people cry, as will Decree of Annihilation and other similar cards.

Strictly greater than Lesser Gargadon.

Can't use Vampire Hexmage, since suspended cards aren't permanents yet.
I like pairing this guy with goblins, since they're already so expendable. Right now I'm running my playset with Pandemonium and cards like Hellspark Elemental and Elemental Appeal, and it's a pretty consistent finisher. It's a very nice thing to have in play, none of your permanents (except enchantments) need to go to waste to an opponent's removal. Can even cause multi-clause spells to fizzle that way. It's a great sacrifice engine, and I find that function to often be more useful than the creature it becomes. Especially with a Norin the Wary and Confusion in the Ranks in play.

This + Dominus of Fealty = Sac your opponents permanents to get your Gargadon in play!

float mana and sac down to one time counter then ramp into Apocalypse. with leave play or enter graveyard abilities, a la Bogart Shenanigans, its GG. I can think of very few 1 mana answers to him next turn, and that's if they forgo rebuilding for removal.

Play him with any board cleaner (Wrath of God, Day of Judgment, Damnation, Jokulhaups, etc.), then attack when he comes in play hasted... then Fling him.
