Each Time Spiral card was an homage to at least one previously printed card.
This card references Hyalopterous Lemure in ability and flavor text. Famously, artist Richard Thomas misread lemure (a French word for ghost) with lemur, the primitive, bushy-tailed monkey. This same mistake is being made by our favorite coward, Norin the Wary, in the flavor text.

Is there a way to make use of the fact that this can be a -1000000/3 creature?

Replying to sweetgab's question: Yes. Ichor Explosion, sacrificing it, gives any amount of power and toughness increase (the negative of a negative number is a positive number).

If only they had gotten Richard Thomas to do the art for this.

Even if there were just lemurs, though, Norin would still head for the hills if they showed up. They don't call him Norin the Wary for his clever brownie recipe....

They printed this card to reference the gaffe on Hyalopterous Lemure's art. The original card wasn't popular, but it was notable that the artist mistook what was supposed to be an evil spirit for a flying monkey.
