@Volcre: It's a bit overcosted as it is, but having alternate ways to do things makes a card more versatile, and therefore better. It can also be used with things that have Madness costs, if one so desires.

In spite of it's alternate casting cost (which is it's only saving grace, but a good save nonetheless) it is stunningly mediocre. It's applications are limited at best when the loss of card advantage doesn't hurt you terribly.
Maybe a combo with pull from eternity so that you don't lose ALL the cards you exile with it's alternate cast.

I wouldn't run this without Phyrexian Arena or another source of card draw. Probably better than Soul Feast though.

@Morgrath @TasPap
That does look very similar to Lovisa Coldeyes' axe, but unless she's prone to growing beards, I don't think that's her in this picture. Also, the nose is wrong.

this card is both good and bad depending on how or when its played..
but i think its most effective when used as a secret sideboard tech against ANT..

It's not great on its own, no, but this thing gets along swimmingly with Necropotence. Turn life into cards, turn cards into a dead creature and more life, turn that life into even more cards... it combines Necro's love for both Drain Life and Contagion into one card.

This would have made the old Yawgmoth's Bargain decks even better. If you had no Dark Rituals in hand, Soul Feast required discarding 5 cards to Skirge Familiar to cast (with 1 Dark Ritual, it still required discarding 3 cards for a net loss of 4 cards), while this requires only 2 cards.

Obviously would've been good in Necropotence or Yawgmoth's Bargain decks. Griselbrand could still make great use of this in a reanimator combo deck.
Use two of these and you'll have enough life for another 7 cards. IF running simian spirit guide, lotus petals, and other such mana creation effects you could probably also get a hastey 7 from the Brand
Mix in Bump in the Night and chancellor of the dross and you could easily see your opponent dead t1 or t2 from life-loss. Mix in with rituals and Tendrils of agony to have a mixed win con allowing you to storm off of your other drain spells.
Chancellor and Griselbrand are both formidable life-gaining beaters too.
