I'd rate this as the best (or, uh, coolest) protection ability in all of Magic, with "Protection from everything" a close second.

I guess he is supposed to be played with rimefeather owl. Then you can turn any permanent to snow and grant him protection. Like if someone has a pacifism on him, turn the pacifism into a snowy pacifism with the owl and it falls off. Or if a royal assassin is about to kill him, make the assassin snowy.
On the other hand, if you have a rimefeather owl in play and the mana to turn stuff snowy, then your opponent got probably other things to worry about than this beast.

The main problem with this card is its upkeep. It's obviously not meant to be played in bulk.
