I've used it often and it hasnt failed me yet. Not to mention you could use it on yourself if you're ever in a bind.

Basically a mind rot that deals 8 damage instead of 4 with Megrim. Note that your opponent can't play the cards they drew immediately before they have to discard. Great card for UB discard, especially with Cephalid Looters and friends forcing discards on a stick.

OK, moderately stylish Turn 4 win incoming.

Turn 1: Swamp/Island

Turn 2: Swamp/Island, Liliana's Caress

Turn 3: Swamp/Island, Megrim

Turn 4: Swamp/Island, 1 mana discard spell of your choice (dealing 4 damage/life loss) Wistful Thinking (dealing 16 damage/life loss).

TA-DAA! That's 20 in one hit! This combo isn't too hard to pull off either; run a decent two-colour manabase, 4 Caresses and a few Megrims and the 4 Wistful Thinking can dish out more damage than Mind Rot.

This and Careful Consideration I find to be great for the way to have blue discard back in the game. Please Wizards, bring some old school blue back!

I played this on an opponent who had three cards in his hand. One of the cards was Twincast, which he used on my Wistful Thinking. He of course targeted me with his copy. I had 5 cards in my hand after casting, so I ended up choosing 3 of 7. He, having used Twincast, was down to 2, and had to discard his entire hand.

The basic premise then is that if your opponent has two or less cards, they're going to lose their hand. If you have 3 or more cards, you'll at least get to keep 1 card. In a bind, that's better than nothing, as it gives this card versatility. Most of the time I'm using it to force my opponent to discard. You could run this in a dredge, madness, or flashback deck though and have pretty good success with it, especially for cards that care about casting from graveyards (Burning Vengeance, Secrets of the Dead).
