When I first started playing Magic in 1994, I had no access to online spoilers or card lists. I had a very limited knowledge of the cards, and it was mostly restricted to the cards I owned. One exception to that was Shivan Dragon. While I didn't own a Shivan, I knew all about it. Every Magic player did. It was THE iconic creature of the time. A card that I did own, however, was Dragon Whelp. A card with an adorable picture, that I quickly learned was one of the most powerful cards I owned. Every time I played Dragon Whelp, I found myself wanting a Shivan Dragon more. If the baby was this good, just imagine how awesome the mommy dragon would be! At first, flying was enough for my Dragon Whelp, but soon my opponent's were playing Phantom Monsters and Serra Angels, and I found that I didn't want my little firebreathing friend to die, so I started using the Whelp with Dwarven Warriors, which turne... I got one of these in the first box of magic cards I ever opened.
This guy blinked at me while I had it in play once. I was looking right at it, and the dang thing blinked. Then it won me the game. True story. I still have the card because of that!
