My friend told me that if you open up a booster with her on the art, you get two rares or you get a planeshifted rare (like Serra Sphinx), to be quite honest I don't remember. I still don't believe him, but he's never lied before...

There wasn't really any issue of mana burn with her unless you left a R or RR in the pool. Her effect has the word "may", which means optional. You can choose not to add that mana to your mana pool when she attacks. Unlike Magus of the Vineyard which is a forced adding mana to the mana pool.

Adventurers' Guildhouse will save her from dying to add that , by banding her with Silvos, Rogue Elemental or Thrun, the Last Troll. Just assign most combat damage to the regenerating/banded guy. Old school rules, but even today, still could be relevant...just confusing. Basically, banding means: you get to assign combat damage between all banded stuff. Of course, Unquestioned Authority or equipment giving protection from stuff would be somewhat easier.
