The sad thing is that the flavor text is probably the only thing awesome about the card.

Well... they can block even if you don't control a vampire.

Love the art - reminds me of Brain Gorgers.
I would absolutely love it if Wizards would somehow update and rework Scathe Zombies into a 1 drop 2/2 that comes into play tapped. Then it would be perfectly balanced IMO.

To the person on here who will probably never read this who said 1-drop for 2 that ETB tapped:
Diregraf Ghoul.
And the flavor text is AWESOME!!

Why waste good flavor text on this?
Because it's vanilla.
There's way more room on vanilla dorks for awesome flavor text.

Scathe Zombies are not crappy. Stop saying that. Sure, they are not tournament viable, but that's something completely different. A crappy card is something no-one would play, and this is certainly not one of them. At least not for me.
EDIT: To expand my previous assertions, I have this to say: I am a casual player, and I actually think that, within that setting, Scathe Zombies is the quint-essential zombie card. It has been with M:TG since its very start, and in addition to that, it has its wonderful flavour text. That, and the fact that it is a simple and unassuming vanilla, turns into, dare I say, the most iconic zombie card ever. I would gladly put it into each and every zombie deck I were to make.
