One of the best Dread Return targets in dredge. Every dredge deck should have a copy on the sideboard.

This is not overcosted for it's rarity. You can get a 4/4 First Strike for 4W. The gain life for each card in your graveyard for 1W is reasonable as well. I would just never run this in a mono white deck.
I believe this card would be useful for some kind of combo or trick deck. With the right graveyard and the right amount of bounce, you can easily gain 30+ life. This card is good card advantage in that sense. Just think about it: how many other cards have the amount of life gain potential that this card has? The only card that I can think of off the top of my head would be Beacon of Immortality. And even that has it's flaws (It doesn't help much when you're at low hp and isn't attached to a 4/4 body).

Hmmm.... Good effect, but really pricey. It'd also be pretty hard for the effect to do much in a white deck (as opposed to green/black Dredge).

I find him useful in soldier decks where I end up losing lots of soldiers fast early on, plus all the instants and sorceries that I burn through.

I always thought he looked like Jim Carrey.

Overcosted for what it does.

Really really fun with four Mesmeric Orb, unless you die from getting decked the very next turn. :(
Still, those who have a playset of Orb, try it! It's awesome fun.
