Split Second is one of those mechanics that tells you how good a player is...similarly see cards such as Sign in Blood (New player will target opponents for life loss, experienced players will target themselves for card advantage) and Dark Confidant

Split second is basically a fancier term meaning "can't counter this, B****!"
That said, this card is awesome. Since it is permament, you can take over artifacts, Enchantments, and even Planeswalkers.
If this had flash, it would be the ultimate possession card, although it is very high priced. It serves as a late game spell, thanks to the cost.

As long as there is this card, I am good with people who only play with expensive top tier cards.
One of these in every deck just in case your opponent tries to lock you down.
